American Volunteer Corps

American Volunteer Corps is the heart of AHA.  These are the people who make things happen.  They are part of the The American Volunteer Corps.  The Corps incorporates The Junior Volunteer Corps (JVS), The Senior Volunteer Corps (SVC) and The American Healthcorps.  The word “Senior” in this case is used in terms of higher in rank, authority or experience and not older, elder or retired.  The Corps are “trained volunteers” who are trained for professional volunteer positions in a myriad of healing and helping disciplines including Peer Counseling, Healthcare Coaching, Grief and Bereavement Counseling and many specialized programs in helping and healing arts.

Senior Achievement

Senior Achievement Award” is bestowed each spring to one or more Senior’s within the non-profit community of each AHA chapter.  It is given to a member(s) who epitomize the essence of outstanding contribution to a service or activity that is beyond their normal call of duty within the community.

American Health University

At AHA we educate concerning emotional toxicity—we promote health literacy—we examine lifestyle to complete lifestyle analysis advocacy and longevity counseling.  For those wishing to become certified as a Health Coach and Longevity Counselor we offer course through our American Health University.

American Volunteer Corps continue

... give active adults the “4 P’s” of continued life sustenance.  Passion”,
Purpose” with “Productivity” in a social “Partnership” with and in their respective communities.  Once trained, they are placed within five (5) miles of a member’s home and in effect become “longevity coaches” to the community.

Under “The Senior Volunteer Corps (SVC) are multiple programs that define and delineate the Corps from any other group in the country.  Senior & Senior, matches a student in high school and a member of the SVC in “Oral Narratives” videoing important memories and life stories of men and women over age 75.  As a culture, we don’t hand down our lives or our histories very well.  We don’t tell our stories to the next generation.  The “Senior & Senior” oral history campaign attempts to change this situation.   Copies of the taping are then given to family members as a keepsake of loved ones. 

Santa: Cause I Love You” is another illustration of how the SVC functions.  Here they collect and recycle used (often new) plush animals,  Teddy Bear’s and dolls known as “Guardian Angels”.  They are given to abandoned and neglected elders stuck away in “aging ghettos” without visitors or holiday gifts.  SVC members dress up as Santa and Elves and make the holidays memorable.  Other times of the year this program is known as “Senior Angels”.  Members visit residences, hospitals and hospices giving gifts of love and Teddy Bears of hope.

Senior Achievement continue

agencies to include hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living centers, senior service centers, churches and synagogues.  Each are within a few miles of a member’s home.  You will graduate with a Master Peer Counseling Certificate with a placement of your choosing.   Specialization Certificates in various psychological disciplines are offered through out the year as well.  These include Grief and Bereavement, Crisis and Recovery, Elder Abuse, elder Depression, Elder Management, etc.  A few examples of Support Groups for both men and women include Re-building Your Life After Battling Crisis and Divorce (ABCD), Small Course in Happiness, Coping with Age, Economic Anxiety and Love & Romance.
